Colombia, La Pradera Natural (Organic Certified)
Country: Colombia
Region: Santander
Farm: Hacienda La Pradera
Producer: Oscar Daza
Process: Natural
Variety: Tabi
Elevation: 1700–1900 meters
Description: Located in Aratoca, Santander, on the slopes of Colombia’s Eastern Mountain Range, Hacienda La Pradera sits approximately two hours from Bucaramanga. Established in 1971, the farm remains family-owned and operated, with four generations of the Daza Bautista family actively involved in the production, processing, and export of specialty coffee.
The story of La Pradera began with Héctor Daza, who transformed the family property through a long-term vision of sustainable coffee cultivation. By integrating coffee trees with a diverse canopy of native and fruit- bearing species, he created an agroforestry system that supports biodiversity while providing ideal growing conditions for coffee. Today, under the leadership of Oscar Daza, the family continues to prioritize responsible land management, environmental stewardship, and quality-focused production.
La Pradera benefits from its proximity to the Chicamocha Canyon, one of the largest canyons in the world. What began as a single family farm has evolved into a broader coffee operation that includes eight additional farms, centralized wet and dry milling facilities, and a dedicated quality control laboratory. The QC program is led by a team of certified professionals committed to maintaining consistency and quality across all production stages. The infrastructure includes eco-friendly washing systems, pre-drying patios, solar drying beds, and mechanical dryers designed to support both traditional and innovative processing methods.
The company provides year-round employment opportunities while creating seasonal work during harvest periods. Its operations also support initiatives such as Manos de Mujer, highlighting the important role of women in coffee production and farm management.
